The Event on "Current Trends in the Global Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (AML/CFT) System" Takes Place in Belarus

On November 21-22, 2023, events dedicated to the exchange of experience and best practices among the competent authorities of the member states of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of the CIS Member States (CHFIU) were held in Minsk, Republic of Belarus.

These events took place within the framework of a joint seminar organized by the Council, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center (CIS ATC), and the International Training and Methodology Centre for Financial Monitoring (ITMCFM) on the topic "Current Trends in the Global Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (AML/CFT) System."

The event was attended by representatives from the member states of the CHFIU, the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG), the International Training and Methodology Centre for Financial Monitoring, as well as law enforcement agencies of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center.

The seminar discussed issues concerning global trends in the field of anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, the role of crypto-assets in financing illicit activities, and topics related to the specific features of ML/TF risks in Islamic banking.

The participants highly appreciated the speakers' presentations, as well as the interactive polls on current AML/CFT practices.

For instance, representatives of the Financial Monitoring Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted that they liked this seminar primarily due to the diversity of topics covered and the expertise of the speakers.

Separately, the participants expressed a desire to maintain the tradition and convene annually to discuss current issues of the global AML/CFT network.
